Koh Mak is easy to reach from Bangkok. Whether by bus, minivan, plane, ferry or private taxi, here’s everything you need to know to reach this peaceful island in Thailand’s eastern gulf.

Ferry to Koh Mak from Laem Ngop

Laem Ngop Pier is the jetty for taking the boat to Koh Mak. Laem Ngop Pier is located about 20 km from Trat city.

Flights to Trat and transfer to Koh Mak

The fastest option is to fly from Bangkok to Trat with Bangkok Airways. From Trat Airport, take a taxi to Laem Ngop pier, then catch a speedboat to Koh Mak.

Book your flight in advance to get better fares. Discounts are rare on this route.

Bus from Bangkok to Koh Mak (via Trat)

From Ekamai Bus Terminal, 3 direct buses leave daily to Laem Ngop at 06:30, 07:45 and 09:45. Regular buses to Trat city also run hourly throughout the day.

The trip takes about 5 hours and costs around 300 THB. From Trat, you can take a songthaew or Grab to Laem Ngop.

From Mo Chit Bus Terminal, departures to Trat are available at 07:30, 11:00 and 22:00.

Minivans from Bangkok to Koh Mak: info and schedules

Minivans leave hourly from 07:00 from Mo Chit 2 or Ekamai to Trat. Some departures are available from Khao San Road too. Direct vans to Laem Ngop are less frequent.

⚠️ Important: Arrive at Laem Ngop pier before 4:00 PM to catch the last speedboat.

Driving to Koh Mak

You can also drive to Laem Ngop. It takes about 5 to 6 hours from Bangkok. Parking is available at the pier for around 50 THB per day.

Take the highway toward Trat. About 20 km before reaching the city, turn right toward Koh Chang and continue until Laem Ngop Pier (beyond the Koh Chang pier).

Laem Ngop to Koh Mak: boat schedules

Three companies operate speedboat service from Laem Ngop to Koh Mak between 10:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Travel time is about 1 hour and fares average 450 THB.

A slow ferry (3 hours) also operates from Trat on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 08:00 AM.

Combo ticket (bus + boat) with Boonsiri

Boonsiri Ferry offers a combo package from Khao San Road to Laem Sok Pier (near Trat), including van and speedboat to Koh Mak.

Departure times: 05:30 and 08:00. Price: around 750 THB.

Taxi or private transfer to Koh Mak

From Trat Airport or city, taxis to Laem Sok pier cost around 200 THB per person.

You can also book a private car or van from Bangkok for a direct hotel-to-hotel transfer.

Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak: island-to-island transport
