Koh Chang, how to get there? It is easy to reach the island from the capital: plane, bus, minibus, ferry. Summary of transportation to facilitate a trip to Elephant Island.

By plane to / from Bangkok / Trat

Trat Airport is 17 km from the pier of Koh Chang. There is only one company: Bangkok Airways.

From Bangkok, flights depart from Svarnabhumi Airport.

Daily 3 departures / arrivals connect the capital to Trat. From the airport, it is possible to go to Laem Ngop pier (ferry to Koh Chang) by minibus or taxi.

Note:
There are two piers to go to Koh Chang. These two piers - Tha Laem Ngop and Tha Center Point - are located in the city of Laem Ngop.

By bus from Bangkok

This is the most efficient way to reach the pier for Koh Chang.

Buses can be taken from Bangkok’s 2 bus stations: Ekkamai (East Bus Station) and Mo Chit (North Railway Station).

There are 3 bus companies: 99 Express, Cherdchai Tour and Tanakawee.

Below, schedules of the 3 companies:

Buses take about 6-7 hours to connect the capital to Trat or the pier to Koh Chang.

The 99 Express and Tanakawee companies have several buses that go directly to the pier for Koh Chang.

The other buses arrive at the Trat bus station (it’s 1 km from the city center). To get to the pier either take a taxi (300 baht) or take a songthaew (50 baht per person).

By minibus from / to Bangkok / Trat

There are many minibuses going to Trat. It’s possible to buy combo tickets (minibus + ferry = 300 baht) at Khao San Road or at the bus stations (Ekkamai).

Departures begin around 6:00. The trip lasts 5 to 6 hours. For return to Bangkok, departure every hour, every day. There is no minibus directly to Bangkok Airport.

Note:
From Trat’s bus station, the songthaews all go to Laem-Ngop-Pier. From Bangkok, minibuses usually go to the Tha Center Point pier.

Boats to Koh Chang

There are 2 wharves for Koh Chang.

The first pier - Ao Thammachat Pier - is located less than one km from Laem Ngop. You can either take a ferry or a smaller boat (only for travelers) or a speed boat.

The second ferry pier - The Center Point - is 4 km from Laem Ngop. This is the most recent pier. You can either take a ferry or a smaller boat (only for travelers) or a speed boat.

Booking

Koh Chang has several pier. However, two piers monopolize traffic: Dan Kao Pier and Tha Ferry Dan Kao. Both are located within 500 meters of each other.
