How to Get to Chanthaburi: Bus, Van, Taxi & Ride‑Hailing
Chanthaburi is well linked to Thailand’s transport network. Whether you’re coming from Bangkok, Trat, or Pattaya, here’s how to get there smoothly.
From Bangkok – Bus or Van?
Located 230 km from Bangkok, Chanthaburi offers:
- Direct buses from Mo Chit or Ekkamai Bus Terminals – reliable and comfortable.
- Vans (minibuses) – faster but less luggage space and frequent stops.
From Trat or Pattaya
- Trat (70 km away): regular buses and songthaews available.
- Pattaya: fewer buses, but efficient minivan services exist.
Using Ride-Hailing Apps
Grab and Bolt work well in larger areas but not for returning from remote pickup points.
Pro tip:
For stable schedules and baggage, opt for buses. For flexibility, vans or rideshares work—but plan luggage accordingly.
Getting around Chanthaburi
There are four options for travellers to get around the city:
- Songthaews. Although the price is very competitive, it is not easy to know exactly where they go in the city.
- Apps. The most convenient option is undoubtedly Grab or Bolt. Cars are easy to find (except in the middle of the night) and the prices are reasonable (more expensive than in Bangkok).
- Scooter rental. It is difficult to find a scooter rental company directly. The easiest option is to ask your hotel, which is sure to find one for you more quickly than you could yourself!
- The most economical and environmentally friendly way to get around: walking! The city is not large and you can easily visit Chanthaburi on foot. The cathedral, the gem market, etc. are not very far from each other.
