An airport and a monopoly
Koh Samui Airport (Thai: ท่าอากาศยาน นานาชาติ ส มุ ย) is owned by Bangkok Airways. This company has almost the monopoly of the air traffic of this island.
Indeed, Bangkok Airways makes all domestic flights and 90% of international flights. Three companies can also land in Koh Samui:
- Thai Airways only has 2 flights a day. It supports European passengers calling in Bangkok.
- Chengdu Airlines for flights to / from Chengdu
- SilkAir for flights to / from Singapore
The airport opened since 1989 to its traffic which increases from year to year. Despite the virtual monopoly of Bangkok Airways, the airport is the second largest airport in Thailand just after Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Coming / leaving from Koh Samui Airport
Public transports :
Since 2018, two bus lines cross the island. Each of them has as terminus the airport:
- Route 1. The stops: Airport, Bang Rak Pier, Phut Bo, Mae Nam, Bang Por, Nathon Pier.
- Route 2. The stops: Chaweng Airport, Lamai, Huanon, Namuang, Ban Sa Ket, Ban Lipa Noi, Ban Lipa Yai, Nathon Pier
The services are operational from 08:00 to 22:00. Departure every hour.
Taxis and minibuses:
To come / leave the airport, there is the possibility of taking a taxi or taking a minibus. They leave when there is a minimum of 5 people. There are departures every fifteen minutes or so. See the prices below:

The equipments of the airport of Koh Samui
The airport is very well equipped: ATM, Spa, shops for a small shopping souvenirs and other small gifts, exchange office, luggage storage. There is also a restaurant area (with a pizzeria).
