Koh Chang: A fire destroys the famous Ghost Ship
A spectacular fire has destroyed Koh Chang’s famous Ghost Ship, an iconic former hotel that attracted tourists and urbex enthusiasts for its mysterious atmosphere.
The Ghost Ship in flames: a Koh Chang icon disappears
On Tuesday, a spectacular fire engulfed the Ghost Ship, an old abandoned floating hotel located in the Koh Chang Grand Lagoona, off the coast of Trat. The fire, which started on the lower level of the structure, quickly spread to the upper floors, completely destroying the iconic building.
Despite the intervention of the fire brigade, the flames tore through the ship, releasing thick black smoke that could be seen all over Koh Chang. The cause of the fire remains unknown for the time being, but this event marks the end of a site that had retained a special place in the hearts of tourists and photographers.
An abandoned site turned tourist attraction
The Koh Chang Grand Lagoona, which opened in 2004, is known for its unusual rooms, including portholes that double as windows. Although the ‘ghost ship’ hasn’t been used to welcome guests for years, it has attracted many visitors fascinated by its mysterious charm and by urbex enthusiasts.
A location for film shoots and photo shoots, this abandoned structure had become a veritable icon of Koh Chang. Today, a fire has brought its history to an abrupt end, leaving a gaping hole in the island’s tourist landscape.
