Since August 16, 2025, heightened security measures are in effect along the Thailand–Cambodia border. Here is everything you need to know to travel safely.
Security Situation on the Border
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) confirms strict safety measures in seven border provinces: Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
- Martial law is enforced in several districts of Chanthaburi and Trat.
- A ceasefire is currently in effect, but caution is still advised.
- All border checkpoints in these provinces remain closed to travelers.
Visitors are urged to avoid roads, markets, temples, national parks, and any attractions near the border.
Closed Areas and Attractions
The following sites are inaccessible until further notice:
- Ubon Ratchathani: Phu Chong Na Yoi, Chong An Ma, Yod Dom.
- Surin: Prasat Ta Muen Thom, Prasat Ta Kwai, Chong Chom.
- Si Sa Ket: Khao Phra Wihan, Chong Sa Ngam, Kantharalak border areas.
- Buri Ram: Phanom Rung, Prasat Mueang Tam, Ta Phraya.
- Sa Kaeo: Aranyaprathet, Rong Kluea Market, Sdok Kok Thom.
- Chanthaburi: Ban Laem, Pong Nam Ron.
- Trat: Ban Hat Lek, Ban Muen Dan.

How to Travel Between Thailand and Cambodia?
Although direct border crossings are closed in the affected provinces, travelers still have options:
- By air: daily flights between Bangkok and Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.
- By bus: long-distance buses Bangkok–Siem Reap and Bangkok–Phnom Penh via Poipet (availability depends on official updates).
- Alternative routes: travelers may reroute through non-affected provinces or via southern Cambodia (Koh Kong) once crossings reopen.
Likewise, travelers from Cambodia can reach Bangkok or other Thai cities using the same options.
Drone Restrictions
Between August 16 and 31, 2025, drone flights are allowed only under strict conditions:
- prior authorization,
- permitted hours (06:00–18:00),
- maximum altitude of 90 meters.
In martial law zones, drones remain strictly prohibited.
Travel Elsewhere in Thailand
Travel across the rest of Thailand remains safe and unaffected:
- Major tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, and Pattaya remain open and accessible.
- Air, rail, bus, and ferry services are operating as normal.
